[seoulidarity.net] Radical Language Xchange!
We are a group of Koreans and expatriates in the Seoul area who support local social movements through volunteer translation of news reports, documentaries, and membership communications.
We work in teams, often with a fluent speaker of each language, and our project integrates our own ongoing language learning, socializing, and action for social justice.
Languages represented include Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, English, and sometimes others.
Much of our work to date has focused on the conflict in Pyeongtaek, (South) Korea, where the U.S. military and Korean government are in the process of forcibly confiscating the farms and homes of Koreans to build a new army base.
We also translate news about the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement negotiations, the migrant workers’ labor movement, and international events such as the conflict in Oaxaca, Mexico that are not covered in the local news.
We are a fairly new group, and are open to anyone interested in this radical language exchange. You don't have to be bilingual. All language abilities are welcome!

Call for participation!
Dear folks in Korean, English, or other languages,
"Seoulidarity: Radical Language Exchange" is a multilingual group of volunteer translation activists. Working here in Seoul, our goal is to translate texts and videos about Korean social issues into foreign languages. We want to support Korean social movements by informing an international audience about their struggles. We find articles and documents in the internet and have especially focused on the U.S. base expansion in Pyeongtaek and the FTA.
We have shown two documentaries about Korean social movements, with English subtitles, to help make news about these issues available to foreigners living in Seoul.
We're looking for new members who are interested in language activism. All languages are welcome. Translating is done in teams, through the steps of translation, revising, editing. You don't have to be an expert-- all language abilities are welcome!
We meet irregularly, but coordinate our work through email. For samples of our work, please check out www.seoulidarity.net . For more information please contact: seoulidarity@jinbo.net
We hope to work with you on a translation sometime soon!
